ExPAEDition is the exchange programme of yEAP, created to give paediatric residents in Europe meaningful opportunities for professional exchange, international exposure, and peer learning.
The programme is designed to help young paediatricians experience different healthcare settings, connect with colleagues across Europe, and broaden their understanding of paediatric practice in other countries.
ExPAEDition is built around a few core ideas:
ExPAEDition 2026 offers paediatric residents the opportunity to take part in a short observership exchange in Lyon, France, followed by participation in CEPAS 2026, the joint biennial meeting of the European Academy of Paediatrics (EAP) and the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR).
The observership will take place from 19–27 October 2026, followed by CEPAS from 28–31 October 2026.
The exchange is hosted by Hospices Civils de Lyon, one of the leading university hospital systems in France.

You will be informed of the outcome approximately 10 days after the application deadline. The deadline to apply is 8 June 2026 at 23:59 CET.
Applications are reviewed by the Young EAP selection committee through a holistic and competitive process. Each application is assessed based on its overall quality, including the applicant’s motivation, CV, and level of training.
Consideration is also given to ensuring a diverse and balanced group of participants across countries, and to offering opportunities to applicants who have not previously taken part in the programme.
Final decisions are made based on a combination of these factors and the number of places available. Due to the competitive nature of the programme, not all qualified applicants can be selected.

New ways to test high-risk medical devices.
Manufacturers of medical devices need to test their products before being allowed to market them. Specifically, they require clinical data showing their medical device is safe and efficient. In this context, the EU-funded CORE-MD project will translate expert scientific and clinical evidence on study designs for evaluating high-risk medical devices into advice for EU regulators. The project will propose how new trial designs can contribute and suggest ways to aggregate real-world data from medical device registries.
It will also conduct multidisciplinary workshops to propose a hierarchy of levels of evidence from clinical investigations, as well as educational and training objectives for all stakeholders, to build expertise in regulatory science in Europe. CORE–MD will translate expert scientific and clinical evidence on study designs for evaluating high-risk medical devices into advice for EU regulators, to achieve an appropriate balance between innovation, safety, and effectiveness. A unique collaboration between medical associations, regulatory agencies, notified bodies, academic institutions, patients’ groups, and health technology assessment agencies, will systematically review methodologies for the clinical investigation of high-risk medical devices, recommend how new trial designs can contribute, and advise on methods for aggregating real-world data from medical device registries with experience from clinical practice The consortium is led by the European Society of Cardiology and the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and involves all 33 specialist medical associations that are members of the Biomedical Alliance in Europe.
