Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the EAP Winter Meeting 2022 which is scheduled to take place from 2-3 December. After several virtual and hybrid meetings over the course of the past years, we look forward to finally seeing in-person (only) in the beautiful city of Brussels. The virtual engagement lately has been valuable, but nothing will ever replace physical, face-to-face discussions and connection.

Join us in December 2022 for discussions on key issues among professionals working to care for and cure the children living in Europe. The Winter Meeting is an essential activity to reassess where we are, share developments and consider the way forward. Your presence will help the EAP break new ground in Europe and beyond. I strongly believe that we can be more effective in achieving our goals if we stand together and support each other. There is no better platform than the EAP Winter Meeting to discover new knowledge, make connections and promote research to ensure their continuing professional development.

The European Academy of Paediatrics (EAP) continues to promote child health and to harmonize standards of paediatric training and services throughout Europe. We urge you to participate and to help us form a strong and unified team, working for the advancement of our children’s health.

See you in Brussels!

Sincerely,

Warm Regards,

Prof. Adamos Hadjipanayis (EAP President)

Core-MD Project

Coordinating Research and Evidence for Medical Devices (CORE-MD)

New ways to test high-risk medical devices.

Manufacturers of medical devices need to test their products before being allowed to market them. Specifically, they require clinical data showing their medical device is safe and efficient. In this context, the EU-funded CORE-MD project will translate expert scientific and clinical evidence on study designs for evaluating high-risk medical devices into advice for EU regulators. The project will propose how new trial designs can contribute and suggest ways to aggregate real-world data from medical device registries.

It will also conduct multidisciplinary workshops to propose a hierarchy of levels of evidence from clinical investigations, as well as educational and training objectives for all stakeholders, to build expertise in regulatory science in Europe. CORE–MD will translate expert scientific and clinical evidence on study designs for evaluating high-risk medical devices into advice for EU regulators, to achieve an appropriate balance between innovation, safety, and effectiveness. A unique collaboration between medical associations, regulatory agencies, notified bodies, academic institutions, patients’ groups, and health technology assessment agencies, will systematically review methodologies for the clinical investigation of high-risk medical devices, recommend how new trial designs can contribute, and advise on methods for aggregating real-world data from medical device registries with experience from clinical practice The consortium is led by the European Society of Cardiology and the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and involves all 33 specialist medical associations that are members of the Biomedical Alliance in Europe.
